The inaugural Belt and Road Conference for Overseas Chinese Cooperation and Development began on Thursday in Chongqing, southwest China, with the goal of leveraging the global overseas Chinese community to further advance the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
At the conference, agreements totaling 43.79 billion yuan (approximately 6.13 billion U.S. dollars) were signed, covering 66 projects in sectors including green energy, cross-border trade, advanced manufacturing, and the digital economy.
The event also marked the launch of the Belt and Road Overseas Chinese Business Network, with founding members from Chinese business associations across 72 countries and regions. The network is intended to unify global Chinese business resources and encourage collaboration in trade, technology, science, and culture.
Additionally, ten exemplary “Overseas Chinese for Belt and Road” cases were showcased, recognizing contributions in areas such as new energy, manufacturing, and humanitarian efforts.
The conference was co-hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese along with the governments of Chongqing and Sichuan Province, drawing over 500 overseas Chinese participants from more than 110 countries and regions.
