New Gwadar Shipyard Mega Project approved by the government for comprehensive development under CPEC 2.0.
The government has approved the “New Gwadar Shipyard Mega Project” and initiated a Project Management Cell (PMC) following Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s directive to utilize all available resources for comprehensive development under CPEC Phase II.
To facilitate operations, Rs200 million has been allocated for the PMC, and relevant appointments will be made to ensure adherence to standard procedures.
A Gwadar Port Authority official stated that the modern shipyard will boost the shipbuilding and repair industry, generate employment opportunities, and drive economic growth. With the land dispute nearing resolution, international tenders will be invited as per the defined terms of reference.
The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has designated 750 acres for the shipyard project. In addition to providing dry docking services for cargo vessels at Gwadar Port, the shipyard will also undertake shipbuilding activities.
Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense Production, emphasized the strategic importance of the project, urging its commencement within the year. He highlighted that job opportunities for Balochistan’s workforce should be prioritized.
According to the senator, the Gwadar Shipyard will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, positioning Pakistan among leading global shipbuilding nations.
