Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has called for deeper China-Pakistan cooperation based on people-centered development, mutual learning and stronger exchanges between political parties.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building, jointly hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad. The event brought together Pakistani political representatives, diplomats, academics and Chinese experts.
People-Centered Development
Ambassador Jiang said China-Pakistan cooperation should focus on improving the lives of people in both countries.
He highlighted the emphasis placed by Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building on serving the people and remaining committed to the original mission of governance.
According to Jiang, China’s experience in poverty alleviation demonstrated the ability of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to mobilize resources and coordinate institutions toward major national objectives.
He said this approach also provides a basis for expanding cooperation with Pakistan in ways that deliver tangible benefits to local communities.
CPEC’s Economic Impact
Jiang highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as an important example of practical bilateral cooperation.
He said CPEC has attracted more than $25.9 billion in direct investment, created over 260,000 jobs, added more than 8,000 megawatts of power generation capacity, built 510 kilometres of highways, and developed 886 kilometres of national transmission networks.
The figures were also highlighted in reports covering Jiang’s remarks at the seminar.
The ambassador described these achievements as contributing to Pakistan’s socioeconomic development and serving as an example of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
Faisalabad Industrial Cooperation
Jiang also referred to a recent visit to an industrial park in Faisalabad.
He said 39 Chinese private enterprises were operating there, with many of them performing successfully and contributing to local communities.
According to his remarks, five ceramic companies alone pay nearly $20 million in annual taxes and provide more than 5,000 local jobs.
Jiang said such examples demonstrate how investment and an enabling business environment can create benefits for both Chinese companies and Pakistani communities.
Focus on Party Governance
A major part of Jiang’s address focused on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building and its emphasis on party self-reform, discipline, governance and anti-corruption efforts.
He said political parties around the world face common questions about how to strengthen their organizations and improve governance.
Jiang presented China’s experience as a possible reference for political parties, particularly in developing countries, while emphasizing the importance of mutual learning and exchanges.
The Islamabad seminar also examined China’s approach to political organization, governance and institutional development. Chinese experts Liu Daxiu and Zheng Huan briefed participants on the subject.
China-Pakistan Party-to-Party Exchanges
Jiang highlighted the growing interaction between the CPC and political parties in Pakistan.
He noted that the two sides have established mechanisms for inter-party exchanges, including the China-Pakistan Political Parties Forum and the Political Party Consultation Mechanism for CPEC.
He also pointed to regular visits by Pakistani political party representatives to China and cooperation through initiatives such as the Silk Road Workshop.
According to Jiang, these exchanges can strengthen understanding and support broader cooperation between the two countries.
75 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The ambassador also highlighted the significance of 2026, which marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
He said Chinese and Pakistani leaders have reached new understandings on advancing bilateral cooperation, with both sides working to implement those agreements.
Jiang said China remains ready to work with Pakistan on major development projects as well as smaller initiatives focused on people’s livelihoods.
Expanding CPEC 2.0 Cooperation
The remarks come as Pakistan and China continue to expand economic cooperation under CPEC 2.0.
The second phase places greater emphasis on industrial development, investment, technology, agriculture and business-to-business cooperation.
Jiang said the two countries should continue building on existing cooperation while expanding what he described as “political party-plus” cooperation.
He added that stronger party-to-party exchanges could contribute to the continued development of the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
Stronger Partnership Ahead
Jiang concluded by expressing China’s willingness to deepen exchanges with Pakistani political parties on party building and governance.
He said China would work with Pakistan to implement the consensus reached by the leadership of both countries and create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
The ambassador also called for continued progress toward a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future, while expressing hopes for lasting friendship, peace and prosperity between the two countries.
