Gwadar district will lead Pakistan’s first nationwide polio drive of 2026. Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar chaired a high-level meeting with health, administrative, and security officials to finalize operational plans, logistics, and surveillance measures. The campaign aims to reach over 35,000 children in the district.
WHO officials presented updates from the previous campaign, including environmental test results and suspected polio cases. Departments were directed to address challenges, ensure frontline teams are motivated, and maintain close monitoring to achieve effective coverage across all areas.
Gwadar, free of polio since 2015, plays a pivotal role in Pakistan’s eradication strategy. Ongoing vaccination drives and strict surveillance aim to prevent any polio transmission, ensuring the district remains polio-free while supporting the country’s overall public health mission.
