The Gwadar Safe City Project has completed underground cabling and pole installation at key locations across Gwadar, marking progress toward a modern digital surveillance network.

The Balochistan government completed the work on August 11. The next phase will focus on installing advanced security cameras at important, sensitive, and busy locations across the city.

The project has an estimated cost of Rs3.325 billion and aims to strengthen security infrastructure in Gwadar.

Safe City Project Moves to Next Phase

Project Director Dr. Asif Khan Bareach briefed Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan on the latest progress.

GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad also attended the meeting.

During the briefing, officials reviewed ongoing construction work and upcoming phases. The project team also reported rapid progress on the main Safe City complex and the Command-and-Control Centre.

Once the centre becomes operational, surveillance cameras across Gwadar will connect to the central system through an integrated digital network.

As a result, authorities will be able to establish round-the-clock surveillance across key areas of the city.

Command Centre to Link Citywide Cameras

The Command-and-Control Centre will serve as the central hub of the surveillance system.

It will receive feeds from cameras installed at different locations across Gwadar. The integrated network will allow authorities to monitor security conditions and respond to incidents more efficiently.

Moreover, the system will use modern digital technology to improve coordination between relevant security and administrative departments.

GDA Highlights Importance of Security

GDA Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan said Gwadar is emerging as an important centre for investment and economic activity.

He stressed that a secure environment remains essential for residents, investors, foreign experts, businesspeople, and tourists.

According to him, the Gwadar Safe City Project will modernise the city’s security infrastructure. It will also help create better conditions for investment, trade, and development.

Furthermore, Khan directed relevant departments to accelerate work and ensure timely completion of the project.

Perimeter Security System Strengthens Gwadar Port

Gwadar’s security infrastructure also includes a Perimetric Security System (PSS) worth Rs252.35 million.

The system provides security coverage for Gwadar Port, related infrastructure, Gwadar Port Authority buildings, and the North and South Gwadar Free Zones.

The PSS is a multipurpose security system designed to detect threats, conduct surveillance, and analyse potential attack patterns.

Therefore, the system provides an additional layer of protection for the port and surrounding commercial areas.

Strengthening Gwadar’s Investment Environment

The development of the Safe City system comes as Gwadar continues to attract attention as a major economic and investment centre.

Modern surveillance infrastructure can improve security management across the city. It can also support a safer environment for commercial activity and tourism.

With underground cabling and poles now complete, the project is moving closer to its next major stage: the installation and integration of advanced surveillance cameras.
