The Government of Balochistan has allocated more than 200 acres of land for the development of a modern Fishermen Colony in Gwadar. The project cost is estimated at Rs 2,439.6 million.
The housing scheme aims to support local fishermen through affordable residential facilities. In total, 2,970 plots of 120 square yards each will be developed for allotment.
Location and Planning Details
The project site is located at Mouza Ankada South, near Jiwani and Awaran Avenue. It is also close to the Gwadar Sports Complex, making it a well-connected area.
Moreover, a key planning meeting was held under the chairmanship of Moin-ur-Rehman Khan. Senior officials from the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) attended the briefing session.
Focus on Fishermen Welfare
Officials noted that the project was first announced by the Prime Minister during a visit to Gwadar around three years ago. Since then, initial groundwork has already been completed by GDA.
However, funding approval from the federal government is still awaited. Once released, construction work will begin, followed by plot allotment to fishermen.
Modern Urban Facilities Planned
The Fishermen Colony will include modern infrastructure and civic services. These include clean drinking water, electricity, roads, schools, mosques, hospitals, and parks.
In addition, the Government of Balochistan will provide subsidies to ensure affordability for local fishermen. A digital database will also be created to ensure transparency in allotments.
Next Steps and Development Goals
The Planning and Development Department has already approved the project’s PC-II, covering design and consultancy work.
Furthermore, officials emphasized fast-track implementation to benefit Gwadar’s fishing community. The project aims to provide dignified and modern housing to fishermen as key stakeholders of the coastal economy.
