Great Wall Motors, one of China’s leading automobile manufacturers, recently launched its new energy SUV in Brunei, receiving a positive response from the local market.
The launch event took place on Friday at the newly opened GWM Experience Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital. Around 200 guests, including local customers and Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Xiao Jianguo, attended the ceremony, where the new car was unveiled.
Pengiran Irwan Ab Rahaman, managing director of Brunei’s prominent automotive dealer Berjaya Sdn Bhd, highlighted that the introduction of the GWM Tank 500 reflects a strong commitment to bringing top-tier Chinese automotive technology to Brunei.
Chinese car brands have been gaining traction in Brunei over the years. Since entering the market in 2021, Great Wall Motors has sold nearly 1,000 vehicles across various models, with sales experiencing rapid growth, noted Zhao Meng, the company’s regional marketing director.
Brunei, a Southeast Asian nation with a population of 340,000, had over 300,000 registered vehicles as of 2023. SUVs, pickup trucks, and off-road vehicles are particularly popular among local consumers.
