The northern port city of Erenhot, located in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and recognized as the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, has handled 2,000 inbound and outbound China-Europe freight trains so far this year, according to China Railway Hohhot Group Co., Ltd.
This achievement reflects the effectiveness of a coordinated transport system established between Erenhot Port and Zamyn-Uud station in Mongolia, aimed at improving operational efficiency.
Regular communication, including daily updates and monthly coordination meetings, has helped ensure smooth scheduling of cross-border train movements. China Railway Hohhot Group also plans to implement a digital port system for paperless customs procedures, strengthening cooperation with customs, border control, and inspection authorities.
Yun Zhijun of Erenhot Station stated that border inspection time has been reduced to under 30 minutes, while overall clearance efficiency has improved by more than 5 percent.
As a major gateway along the central corridor of the China-Europe rail network, Erenhot Port now operates 73 routes connecting over 60 cities in 24 Chinese regions to more than 70 destinations in over 10 countries, such as Germany and Poland.
