DG ISPR Highlights May 2025 Conflict Success
Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, praised the performance of Chinese-made weapons used by Pakistan during the four-day military engagement with India in May 2025. He described the Chinese platforms, including J-10C fighter jets, as performing “exceptionally well,” marking Pakistan’s first major deployment of modern Chinese systems in active combat.
Indian Aircraft Losses and Claims
Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan had shot down seven Indian aircraft, up from six previously, and confirmed that no Pakistani planes were lost. “Pakistan has never tried to manipulate facts or figures,” he emphasised. The DG ISPR noted that claims from India about destroying Pakistani aircraft remain unverified. The May clash, involving artillery, drones, missiles, and airstrikes, was the most intense between the nuclear-armed neighbours in about 50 years.
Modernisation and Technology Strategy
Highlighting Pakistan’s defence policy, Lt Gen Chaudhry said the military prioritises effective, efficient, and economically viable platforms, whether sourced from China or Western nations. He cited the recent induction of Z-10ME attack helicopters and the use of Chinese satellite and radar systems as examples of capability enhancement.
Not an Arms Race
Clarifying Pakistan’s defence posture, the DG ISPR stated that Islamabad is not engaged in an arms race with India. Pakistan’s defence budget of $10.2 billion is a fraction of India’s $86.1 billion, though both spend a similar share of GDP on defence. He emphasised that Pakistan focuses on technology that delivers results, rather than quantity.
Global Observers and Chinese Cooperation
The use of Chinese systems, including PL-15 air-to-air missiles, has drawn international attention, reflecting both Pakistan’s evolving military strategy and Beijing’s growing defence technology influence in Asia. Lt Gen Chaudhry reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transparent operations, effective modernisation, and integrating global innovations into its armed forces.
