Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s official visit to Bangladesh marked a renewed phase of growing defence collaboration and strategic engagement between Islamabad and Dhaka.
During his visit, General Mirza held detailed discussions with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and met the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with senior officials of the Armed Forces Division. Both sides expressed optimism about expanding military cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening defence and security ties based on mutual respect and sovereign equality.
At the Bangladesh Army Headquarters in Dhaka, General Mirza met with General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army. The two commanders reviewed the evolving regional and global security environment and underscored the importance of regular high-level military exchanges, joint training programs, and counterterrorism collaboration.
Both sides also recognised the growing threat posed by disinformation campaigns and pledged to enhance cooperation to counter such disruptive narratives. Discussions further focused on broadening institutional linkages, sharing operational experiences, and promoting interoperability between the armed forces of both nations.
The CJCSC also visited the School of Infantry and Tactics in Sylhet, where he interacted with faculty and students. The Bangladeshi civil-military leadership lauded the professionalism and achievements of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, particularly their role in combating terrorism and promoting regional stability.
The visit comes amid warming bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh following the political changes in Dhaka last year. Diplomatic and trade ties have since improved, with both governments showing renewed intent to build trust and foster long-term strategic cooperation.
General Mirza’s visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and its proactive engagement with South Asian partners to strengthen defence, intelligence, and counterterrorism collaboration.
