Chinese automotive giant Yutong has unveiled a new generation of electric and hybrid buses designed specifically for Pakistan’s climate and urban transport challenges, setting a new benchmark in the country’s shift towards sustainable mobility.
At a launch event held in Lahore, Yutong introduced four purpose-built models, H9, H12, E9, and E12PRO, that integrate the company’s latest DMT (Direct Motor Drive) and YEA (Yutong Electric Architecture) technologies. These advanced systems are engineered to meet local conditions such as extreme heat, monsoon weather, and dense traffic corridors.
Historic 400-Bus Deal to Accelerate Electrification
In a landmark development, Yutong signed an agreement with Wah Industries Limited (WIL) for the supply of 400 electric buses, the largest single order of new energy vehicles in Pakistan’s history. The deal marks a major leap in the country’s commitment to green public transport.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, speaking at the ceremony, highlighted the government’s strong commitment to electrifying public transport as part of its broader climate change strategy.
“The transition to electric buses is a crucial step in our climate strategy, paving the way for cleaner, more efficient urban transport,” he noted.
Market Leader Driving Urban Mobility Reform
Yutong, a key player in Pakistan’s transport landscape since 2008, already commands over 70% market share in the country’s premium bus segment, with more than 3,000 units operational nationwide. The new models are not only environmentally friendly but also tailored for operational resilience, especially in Pakistan’s urban gridlocks and weather extremes.
EnRoute+ Network and Chinese Tech Support the Rollout
To support the deployment of these next-gen vehicles, Yutong is strengthening its EnRoute+ service network, ensuring efficient after-sales support and technical maintenance. This further cements China’s growing leadership in green transport solutions across South Asia.
Strategic Partnership for Green Transport Transition
Pakistan’s ongoing transition to electric public transportation gains momentum with this strategic collaboration. Yutong’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and localised solutions makes it a valuable partner in Pakistan’s climate-forward policies.
With the successful rollout of these new buses, Pakistani commuters can look forward to reliable, cost-efficient, and environmentally responsible transit options, paving the way for a cleaner and smarter future in urban mobility.
