Chinese FM Wang Yi meets with Tajik FM Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Almaty.
Wang Yi, a senior official of the Communist Party of China and the country’s Foreign Minister, met with Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin on Friday.
Wang highlighted President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Tajikistan in July last year, where both nations agreed to upgrade ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for a new era. This move, under the leadership of the two presidents, has led to fruitful outcomes in bilateral cooperation. China strongly supports Tajikistan’s independent development path and rejects any foreign interference in its internal matters. Wang emphasized strengthening strategic trust, aligning development strategies, and increasing mutual exchanges to jointly advance modernization and national progress.
Muhriddin acknowledged the vital agreements reached during President Xi’s visit, saying they had significantly boosted bilateral cooperation and contributed to Tajikistan’s sustainable growth. He affirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to working closely with China through existing mechanisms, promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhancing ties between legislatures, local governments, and cultural entities. He also outlined expanded cooperation in areas like trade, infrastructure, green development, and healthcare, while inviting more Chinese businesses to invest in Tajikistan and explore new areas of growth.
Both countries agreed to deepen their cooperation in multilateral frameworks, pledging support for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the China–Central Asia platform. They also committed to stronger coordination in border security and counterterrorism to maintain regional peace and stability.
Wang expressed China’s full support for Tajikistan’s increased participation in global and regional platforms, particularly its role in hosting the first international high-level conference on glacier preservation.
The two sides also discussed tariffs and trade tensions. Wang reaffirmed China’s opposition to U.S. unilateralism and vowed to defend both national and global interests. He stressed China’s readiness to collaborate with international partners to support free trade, resist protectionism, and uphold global justice and equity.
