A shipment of emergency relief supplies provided by the Chinese government arrived in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, on Thursday.
The 35-ton consignment included essential items such as tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purifiers, and medical equipment.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang expressed deep sympathy for the significant damage caused by the recent earthquake and affirmed China’s commitment to standing by Vanuatu and supporting its recovery efforts.
Vanuatu’s caretaker Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, who also attended the event, conveyed gratitude for China’s assistance and emphasized that it would play a key role in facilitating the country’s recovery process.
The 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila on December 17 resulted in at least 14 fatalities, over 200 injuries, and extensive damage to the city’s infrastructure.
