Chinese President Xi Jinping and Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi met in Beijing, emphasizing the importance of advancing an equal, multipolar world. The leaders highlighted inclusive economic globalization and building a community with a shared future for mankind. Orsi’s visit marks the first South American state visit since the January U.S. intervention in Venezuela.
During the visit, China and Uruguay signed 12 cooperation agreements covering trade, science, technology, environmental protection, meat exports, and intellectual property. Orsi highlighted Uruguay’s goal to expand trade diversification, enhance service exports, and attract investment to generate economic growth and development.
China is Uruguay’s top export destination, with strong trade in agricultural products including soybeans, wood pulp, and beef. Both nations aim to elevate their strategic partnership to new heights, while exploring untapped potential in dairy and service sectors. Experts say the agreements will strengthen long-term economic collaboration amid a polarized global environment.
