China is accelerating the development of a new weather forecasting system in 2026 to better predict and warn against extreme climate events. Chen Zhenlin, head of the China Meteorological Administration, said AI will be used to refine forecasts for typhoons and heavy rainfall, and new prediction tools will be introduced. China has improved its disaster response over the past year, providing early flood forecasts and reducing typhoon track errors.
The authorities are also enhancing coordination with government departments to strengthen disaster preparedness and resource management. In 2026, China will focus on new meteorological services for agriculture, including surveying and zoning of agricultural climate resources.
