China has announced plans to send a Pakistani astronaut on a short-term mission aboard its space station, setting a historic precedent in Pakistan-China cooperation in space technology. The announcement, made by China’s Manned Space Agency (CMSA) and reported by Xinhua, confirms that the astronaut will train alongside Chinese counterparts before participating in a mission that includes conducting scientific experiments on behalf of Pakistan.
The initiative stems from a landmark agreement signed in March between Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the CMSA, paving the way for Pakistan’s first manned space mission. The collaboration reflects the growing strategic and technological partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the development, calling it a “wonderful gesture” from China that symbolises the deepening of bilateral ties and mutual trust. He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to advancing space science and reaffirmed that China remains the country’s “most reliable and strategic partner” in technological innovation and space exploration.
This mission represents not only Pakistan’s entry into human spaceflight but also a milestone for regional cooperation in high-tech and scientific frontiers under the broader China-Pakistan partnership.
