China has officially suspended imports of aquatic products from Japan, citing repeated failures by Tokyo to meet regulatory commitments and provide necessary technical documentation. The move comes after provocative statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan, which Beijing says have sparked public outrage.
Chinese officials emphasized that Japan’s refusal to retract the controversial remarks threatens the political foundation of bilateral relations and leaves no market for Japanese exports in China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warned that further provocations could trigger strong countermeasures, placing responsibility for consequences on Japan.
The spokesperson also called on the international community to stay alert against any resurgence of militarism and to uphold the post-war international order. China highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and reiterated that Taiwan is an internal matter, rejecting foreign interference.
