China’s railway system transported 121 million passengers during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday from February 15 to 23, marking an 11.5 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The surge reflects widespread travel for family reunions, tourism, and work-related journeys during the country’s most important festival.
Passenger volumes remained exceptionally high throughout the holiday, averaging more than 13 million travelers per day. February 23 recorded a single-day peak of over 18.7 million passengers, setting a new Spring Festival travel record for China’s rail network.
The travel boom was also reflected in air transport and cross-border movement, with popular winter and holiday destinations attracting large numbers of travelers. The figures underscore the scale and efficiency of China’s transport infrastructure in managing one of the world’s largest seasonal migrations.
