China and Myanmar have signed a 2025 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund agreement, solidifying their ongoing development partnership. The signing ceremony took place in Nay Pyi Taw, with Chinese Ambassador Ma Jia and Myanmar’s Deputy Foreign Minister U Ko Ko Kyaw formalising the deal.
The agreement includes 14 new development projects aimed at supporting Myanmar in critical sectors, including agriculture, science and technology, environmental protection, education, culture, and disaster prevention. Ambassador Ma emphasised China’s commitment to working closely with Myanmar to effectively utilise the LMC funds and further strengthen the vision of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.
Union Foreign Minister U Than Swe expressed deep appreciation for China’s consistent support, highlighting the mutual benefits that stem from shared development goals. He noted that since 2018, Myanmar has benefited from 132 approved projects funded by the LMC, more than any other Mekong country.
The 2025 LMC Special Fund reaffirms China’s role in promoting inclusive regional development and enhancing bilateral cooperation with Mekong partner nations.
