China has introduced its first industry standard for embodied artificial intelligence, marking a major step toward regulating and advancing next-generation AI technologies.
The framework, developed by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology along with multiple institutions, provides unified benchmarks for testing and evaluating AI systems, ensuring consistent performance standards.
The standard outlines key technologies, system structures, and capability requirements, and is expected to take effect from June 1, 2026. It builds on earlier efforts to establish guidelines for humanoid robots and intelligent systems.Officials say the move reflects China’s broader push to strengthen technical foundations, accelerate innovation, and create clear industry norms for the rapidly evolving field of embodied intelligence.
