Boosting Regional Ties
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi affirmed China’s long-standing friendship with Latin American and Caribbean nations. Speaking in Beijing, he expressed readiness to expand cooperation across the region, highlighting Brazil as a key partner. Wang met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira for the fifth China-Brazil Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue. He emphasized that both nations act as vital stabilizing forces globally. Wang called for stronger alignment to boost their respective modernization efforts and empower Global South countries.
Reforming Global Governance
The ministers agreed to deepen the China-Brazil partnership while tackling external challenges together. Wang urged closer coordination within the UN and BRICS to build a fairer global governance system. He noted that this cooperation protects the rights and peace of developing nations.
Vieira described the Brazil-China relationship as a model of stability and independence for major nations. He reaffirmed Brazil’s strict adherence to the one-China principle. Additionally, Vieira expressed a strong desire to build strategic trust, expand practical cooperation, and foster mutual prosperity.
Promoting International Justice through cooperation
Looking ahead, Brazil aims to work with China to reform global systems and uphold UN authority. Both sides concluded the meeting with an in-depth strategic review of regional and global issues, reaching a broad consensus on shared goals. In the midst of geopolitical unrest and economic instability, Beijing is attempting to strengthen ties with important allies throughout Latin America and the developing world at large.
At the Chinese government’s invitation, Vieira will be in China from May 31 to June 2.
