China Expands 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit to 65 Ports
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

China has expanded its 240-hour visa-free transit policy, now including three additional ports: Guangzhou, Zhuhai’s Hengqin, and Zhongshan. With this addition, the total number of ports eligible for the policy rises from 60 to 65, allowing travelers from 55 countries to stay in China for up to 10 days without a visa, provided they travel onward to a third destination.

The visa-free transit program aims to facilitate short-term visits for tourism, business, and international collaboration. Besides the newly added ports, it also covers major transport hubs, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link. These connections make it easier for foreign visitors to travel across multiple cities efficiently and explore different regions of China during their stay.

Travelers must meet certain requirements, including proof of onward travel, valid passports, and entry through one of the designated ports. Officials believe this expansion will significantly enhance regional mobility, encourage foreign investment, and increase tourism in key urban and economic centers.

The Chinese authorities see this policy as part of broader efforts to streamline entry procedures and improve global connectivity. The initiative reflects the country’s commitment to supporting international visitors and strengthening ties with partner nations through easier short-term access.

Experts say that by making more ports eligible, China is encouraging travel to previously less-accessible regions, promoting economic growth beyond the major cities, and integrating its coastal and inland areas into global trade networks.

Overall, the policy represents a step toward greater international engagement while allowing visitors to experience multiple cities conveniently. As China continues to modernize its ports and transport infrastructure, the 240-hour visa-free transit program is expected to play a key role in attracting global travelers and boosting the local economy.
