Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa in Beijing on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
President Xi noted that 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Ecuador, during which their relationship has continued to grow steadily. He highlighted Ecuador’s participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the recent signing of a free trade agreement, which has enabled successful collaboration in sectors such as energy, mining, electricity, and infrastructure.
Xi emphasized that China approaches its relationship with Ecuador from a long-term and strategic perspective and expressed China’s readiness to further develop their comprehensive strategic partnership.
He called for both nations to remain close friends who respect and trust each other, and reliable partners working toward shared growth. Xi also encouraged mutual support on core issues, stronger dialogue on governance, and deeper cooperation on strategic priorities.
He urged both sides to effectively implement key joint projects, expand bilateral trade, and promote people-to-people exchanges in education, culture, media, and youth. Xi also stressed the importance of following through on commitments made at the fourth China-CELAC Forum ministerial meeting.
President Noboa, visiting China to attend the 2025 Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin, praised China’s remarkable development and expressed gratitude for its consistent support in Ecuador’s social and economic progress.
He voiced Ecuador’s commitment to strengthening ties with China, particularly through enhanced cooperation in trade, science and technology, culture, education, and youth engagement.
Following the meeting, both leaders witnessed the signing of a cooperation plan aimed at advancing Belt and Road Initiative projects.
