China Denounces Philippine Ship Provocation at Sea
China’s Ministry of National Defence responded strongly after a Philippine ship reportedly collided with a China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel near the islands and reefs of Huangyan Dao and Nansha Qundao. The incident occurred after the Philippine ship allegedly approached the Chinese vessel in a dangerous manner.
CCG Responds and Releases Video Evidence
Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang confirmed that the CCG had responded to the incident and released video clips showing the friction. He stressed that the Philippine side had no legal basis to justify its intrusion, provocations, or actions in these waters.
China Refutes Philippine Sovereignty Claims
Zhang pointed out that the Philippines’ Defence Secretary claimed sovereignty over Huangyan Dao and Nansha Qundao. He rejected this assertion, emphasising that international treaties clearly define Philippine territories, and these islands fall under Chinese jurisdiction.
Call for Manila to Stop Provocations
The spokesperson accused the Philippine side of distorting historical and legal facts to justify its maritime incursions. “We urge the Philippine side to abandon unrealistic claims, stop orchestrating farces at sea, and cease propaganda campaigns,” Zhang said.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to protecting its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights, warning that Beijing will continue to take resolute measures to safeguard its interests in the region.
