China has responded to recent questions raised by Indian media regarding infrastructure development linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, stating that the construction is taking place in areas under its jurisdiction.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China and Pakistan finalized their boundary arrangements decades ago through a bilateral agreement between two sovereign states. She noted that projects under CPEC are intended to support economic growth, social development and improved livelihoods.
Addressing concerns related to the Shaksgam Valley, Mao said that cooperation between China and Pakistan does not affect China’s consistent position on the Kashmir issue. She added that CPEC, launched under the Belt and Road Initiative, is now expanding beyond infrastructure into agriculture and public welfare sectors.
