Chinese President Xi Jinping met with visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday. During the meeting, the two leaders upgraded their bilateral ties. They jointly decided to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
Friendship and Self-Reliance
Xi emphasized that China deeply values its relationship with Bangladesh. He affirmed China’s consistent policy of friendship and good-neighborliness toward the Bangladeshi people.
Noting the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Xi shared insights from China’s journey out of poverty. He stated that true strength comes from independence and self-reliance. Nations must keep their development and future firmly in their own hands.
Regional Connectivity and Expansion
Xi expressed China’s readiness to boost cooperation in health, culture, education, and local government exchanges. He also pushed to advance the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor to improve regional connectivity.
Furthermore, China aims to coordinate closely with Bangladesh at the UN and other multilateral forums. Together, they intend to promote an equal multipolar world and inclusive globalization, protecting the interests of the Global South.
Bangladesh Pledges Full Support
Prime Minister Rahman backed President Xi’s global vision. He stated that Bangladesh fully supports Xi’s initiatives to maintain world peace, development, and international justice.
Rahman concluded by stating that Bangladesh will strengthen collaboration with China on global affairs. The country remains committed to upholding the UN-centered international order.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that Bangladesh aims to boost bilateral exchanges between the political parties of both nations. The country looks forward to advancing Belt and Road Initiative projects and enhancing collaboration across multiple sectors. Bangladesh specifically intends to expand trade and economic ties, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen joint efforts in agriculture, technology, green energy, education, and healthcare.
On geopolitical matters, Rahman affirmed that Bangladesh maintains a firm and unwavering commitment to the one-China principle. He explicitly stated that the government recognizes Taiwan as an inseparable and integral part of Chinese territory. Furthermore, Bangladesh strongly opposes any form of “Taiwan independence” and firmly upholds the authority and legitimacy of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
