Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa was illuminated in green and white on Thursday evening to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, marking the historic moment when the nation gained freedom from British colonial rule on August 14, 1947.
The Pakistani Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shared a video of the world’s tallest skyscraper displaying the national flag, calling it a tribute to the close ties between Pakistan and the Gulf state. The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, its second-largest source of foreign remittances after Saudi Arabia, and home to over 1.8 million Pakistani expatriates.
Independence Day celebrations in Dubai extended beyond the Burj Khalifa display. The Pakistani Consulate General hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by a large number of community members. Consul General Hussain Muhammad praised the contributions of Pakistanis in the UAE and urged them to continue fostering the growth and prosperity of both nations.
Earlier this week, thousands gathered at the Dubai Exhibition Centre for an event titled “Emirates Loves Pakistan”, organised in partnership with the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) and supported by Dubai Police. The festivities showcased music, dance, art, traditional cuisine, and a vibrant display of community spirit.
