Bomb attack target PPP MPA convoy in Quetta resulting in one death as reported by police officials.
A bomb attack targeted a political rally in Quetta on Tuesday, led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) provincial lawmaker Ali Madad Jattak, resulting in one fatality and injuries to five others, police confirmed.
The explosion occurred along Sariab Road, a bustling area in Quetta, hitting Jattak’s convoy as it was en route to a political gathering.
A senior police officer said that unknown attackers used an improvised explosive device (IED) in the assault. Although Jattak was unharmed, one vehicle in the convoy was damaged, and several people were hurt.
The injured were quickly shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while police initiated a formal investigation and began collecting forensic evidence at the site.
The Balochistan government strongly denounced the incident. Government spokesperson Shahid Rind termed it a cowardly attack and an assault on democratic values. He said a detailed report has been sought and pledged accountability.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari issued a strong condemnation, expressing relief over Jattak’s safety and extending prayers for him.
Calling the attack an act of terrorism and cowardice, Bilawal affirmed that such violence would not weaken the PPP’s determination or public engagement.
He expressed confidence that those responsible would be apprehended soon and requested that the injured receive the best medical care, also wishing them a speedy recovery.
In a separate incident earlier, Member of the National Assembly and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Mubarak Zeb Khan, survived an IED blast that occurred outside his home in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The explosion caused structural damage but no injuries.
Through a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Khan revealed the bomb had been aimed at him and his family, blowing apart the main gate of his residence. He assured that all family members were safe.
Condemning the act as cowardly, Khan said that such intimidation tactics would not undermine his commitment or deter him from fulfilling his responsibilities.
“These terror attacks cannot shake my resolve,” Khan asserted.
