The Pak-China Friendship Games 2026 opened in Lahore on Thursday. More than 2,000 male and female athletes from across Pakistan are taking part in the four-day event.
The Games are being held to mark 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations. They also aim to strengthen friendship through sports and youth engagement.
Opening Ceremony Held in Lahore
The opening ceremony took place at the Gymnasium Hall of Nishtar Park Sports Complex. Punjab Sports Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Chinese Consul General in Lahore Sun Yan jointly inaugurated the event.
The two officials unveiled the Games trophy during the ceremony. Meanwhile, Khokhar administered the oath to participating athletes.
Sports Cooperation Takes Center Stage
Officials highlighted sports as an important platform for strengthening people-to-people connections between Pakistan and China.
Moreover, they called for expanded cooperation through athlete and coach exchanges. Joint training programmes could also provide new opportunities for sports development in both countries.

The four-day Games combine sporting activities with cultural performances. These performances showcase Pakistan’s diverse traditions and add a cultural dimension to the event.
