Pakistan Targets China Retail Market for Kinnow
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Pakistan is stepping up efforts to expand its Kinnow exports to China. The move aims to give the country’s horticulture sector stronger access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

The Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company (PHDEC) recently facilitated a business-to-business meeting between Pakistani citrus exporters and Freshippo.

The meeting explored opportunities to supply fresh Pakistani Kinnow directly to Chinese retail consumers.

Freshippo Explores Pakistani Kinnow Supply

Discussions focused on the requirements of international retail buyers. These included product quality, consistent supply, competitive pricing, and efficient logistics.

Pakistani exporters also presented their sourcing networks and post-harvest facilities. They highlighted grading, packing, and cold-chain capabilities developed for international markets.

Freshippo described the meeting as productive. Both sides agreed to hold another meeting in November 2026.

Pakistan Produces 2.4 Million Tonnes of Citrus

Pakistan produces around 2.4 million tonnes of citrus each year. Kinnow accounts for a major share of the country’s citrus production and exports.

Therefore, greater access to China’s retail market could create new opportunities for growers and exporters.

The next round of talks will focus on quality specifications, supply volumes, pricing, and logistics. These details will help prepare exporters for the upcoming season.

Export Season to Begin in December

Pakistan’s Kinnow export season is scheduled to begin on December 1, 2026. The November meeting will therefore come at an important stage for finalizing commercial arrangements.

Moreover, direct engagement with major retailers could help Pakistani exporters build longer-term supply relationships.

Direct Access to Chinese Consumers

The initiative reflects Pakistan’s efforts to diversify its horticultural export destinations. Instead of relying only on traditional channels, exporters are seeking direct relationships with major international buyers.

In addition, this approach could connect Pakistani growers more closely with global retail markets.

Improving Quality and Supply Chains

Expansion into China’s retail sector could provide Pakistani Kinnow exporters with a much larger consumer base.

At the same time, stronger retail access may encourage improvements in quality standards, cold-chain logistics, and post-harvest handling.

As a result, the initiative could strengthen Pakistan’s horticultural exports while creating new opportunities across the Kinnow supply chain.
