Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif met senior officials in China’s Xinjiang region to expand cooperation between Punjab and Xinjiang.
The discussions covered agriculture, industry, technology, healthcare, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.
Focus on Modern Agriculture
Maryam Nawaz proposed joint projects to improve agricultural productivity in Punjab. The proposals include water-efficient farming, drip irrigation, quality seeds, and water conservation.
She said Punjab could benefit from China’s experience in managing water shortages. In particular, she highlighted modern farming methods for drought-prone and water-stressed areas.
Moreover, the chief minister proposed pilot projects across Punjab to conserve water resources and improve agricultural efficiency.
Expanding Industrial and Technology Cooperation
The meeting also focused on industrial and technological cooperation. Both sides discussed opportunities in business, economic affairs, and infrastructure development.
In addition, Maryam Nawaz highlighted renewable energy as a key priority for Punjab. She also discussed expanding technical education in the province.
The two sides further explored online technical assistance for Pakistani students. This initiative could provide students with greater access to international expertise.

Maryam Nawaz appreciated Xinjiang’s efforts to promote international media exchanges. She also discussed the possibility of further educational and professional exchanges between Punjab and Xinjiang.

Maryam Nawaz Expresses Grief Over PIMS Fire
Separately, Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the deaths of 14 newborn babies in a fire at PIMS Hospital.
She conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and described the incident as deeply tragic. She also directed local authorities to ensure that hospitals have functional firefighting equipment.
Furthermore, she stressed the need for comprehensive safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
Punjab-Xinjiang Cooperation Outlook
