Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has described Pakistan-China friendship as an enduring bond rooted in mutual trust, respect and unwavering support.

Speaking at a thematic briefing on “Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building,” Gilani said the friendship enjoys broad political support across Pakistan and represents a national consensus.

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) organized the briefing.

Pakistan-China Friendship Has Broad Support

Gilani said relations between Pakistan and China have remained strong over the years. He noted that cooperation has continued to grow through shared interests, institutional engagement and people-to-people ties.

He described Pakistan and China as “iron brothers” and strategic partners. According to Gilani, their relationship has developed beyond traditional diplomacy into a comprehensive partnership.

Moreover, he stressed the importance of sustained political, parliamentary and institutional engagement to strengthen bilateral relations.

Zardari Highlights Political Exchanges

At the beginning of the seminar, Gilani conveyed a special message from President Asif Ali Zardari to the Chinese delegation and representatives of Pakistan’s political parties.

President Zardari welcomed the visiting delegation and said Pakistan-China friendship had stood the test of time. He also highlighted its role in advancing the interests of both countries and their peoples.

Zardari said political exchanges provide opportunities for both sides to learn from each other’s experiences in party development, governance and state administration.

He also praised China’s development achievements and said its experience could offer useful lessons for strengthening institutions and improving governance.

Focus on Governance and Institutional Development

Gilani highlighted China’s development and transformation as a source of lessons for developing countries.

He pointed to several areas, including governance, institutional strengthening, economic development, poverty reduction, human resource development and technological advancement.

Furthermore, he said political parties have an important role in maintaining continuity in national policies and strategic partnerships.

The Senate chairman also referred to Xi Jinping’s Thought on Party Building, noting its focus on self-reform, accountability and efforts to combat corruption.

Pakistan Reaffirms One-China Policy

Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the One-China policy.

He also appreciated China’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national development. He described China as a key pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

In addition, Gilani expressed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening the countries’ strategic partnership.

Party-to-Party Contacts Gain Importance

The chairman congratulated the Chinese leadership and people on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

He emphasized that party-to-party contacts can promote mutual understanding and allow both sides to exchange experiences.

The seminar brought together Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, representatives of Pakistan’s political parties, senior officials, policy experts and a visiting CPC delegation.

Gilani said stronger political and parliamentary engagement could create new opportunities for cooperation, institutional development and mutual learning.

Chinese Delegation Meets Gilani

Earlier, a Chinese delegation led by Liu Dashiu, First-Level Inspector of the Party Building Research Institute of the Organisation Department of the CPC Central Committee, met with Gilani.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong also accompanied the delegation.

Gilani welcomed the visitors and appreciated growing exchanges between the CPC and Pakistan’s political parties and institutions.

He said such contacts provide an effective platform for dialogue and sharing experiences in political party development, governance and state administration.

Historical Bonds Remain Strong

Recalling his visit to China during his tenure as prime minister, Gilani said his meetings with Chinese leaders were productive and valuable.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan-China relations have deep historical roots. He also noted that people in both countries hold the friendship in high regard.

Gilani expressed hope that continued political exchanges would further strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between Pakistan and China.
