Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026 in Islamabad. He said the event reflects Pakistan’s ambition to become a leading player in robotics and autonomous technologies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the prime minister said emerging technologies will shape the future economy. He added that Pakistan is committed to building a strong innovation ecosystem.

Robotics to Support Agriculture and Disaster Response

Shehbaz Sharif said robotics can transform agriculture. Farmers can use autonomous systems to detect crop stress and improve water management. They can also optimize fertilizer and pesticide use.

Moreover, these technologies can help farmers respond to climate challenges more effectively.

The prime minister added that robotics can strengthen disaster response. Rescue teams can reach affected areas faster and improve relief operations.

Pakistan Expands Indigenous Technology

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s progress in indigenous technology. He said the armed forces have adopted advanced systems developed inside the country.

Furthermore, he noted that Pakistan now manufactures and assembles several advanced simulators locally. He also said locally produced drones have achieved more than 60% indigenization.

The prime minister praised scientists, engineers, technocrats, and researchers for strengthening Pakistan’s technological capabilities.

Building a National Innovation Ecosystem

The prime minister urged universities, research institutions, startups, industries, and farmers to work together. He said stronger collaboration will accelerate innovation.

In addition, he stressed that Pakistan should develop and retain its own technologies. He said locally developed innovations must remain nationally owned and continue to improve.

He also called for inclusive technological growth. According to the prime minister, robotics should benefit farmers, women entrepreneurs, small businesses, young innovators, and underserved communities.

Need for Ethical Regulations

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of clear regulations for autonomous systems.

He said Pakistan must ensure these technologies remain safe, secure, transparent, and beneficial for society.

Government Launches New Innovation Programs

The prime minister announced the Spark and Elevate Programme. The initiative aims to convert research into globally competitive technologies, successful enterprises, and high-quality jobs.

Additionally, he announced the Pakistan Venture Fund with an initial investment of $20 million. The fund will encourage investment in Pakistan’s technology sector and support innovative startups.

A Step Toward a Digital Future

Overall, the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026 highlights Pakistan’s growing focus on innovation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.

As a result, the event is expected to strengthen collaboration between government, academia, and industry. Ultimately, these efforts can accelerate technological development and support long-term economic growth.
