Gwadar Port has successfully completed its first commercial ship bunkering operation, marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s maritime sector. The operation took place from 9 to 11 July through the joint efforts of the Gwadar Port Authority, National Logistics Cell, Gwadar International Terminals Limited, and Vitol Asia.
LNG Carrier Receives Marine Fuel
During the operation, the LNG carrier LNG ENUGU, jointly owned by QatarEnergy, ADNOC, and Vitol, received 2,500 metric tons of Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) at Gwadar Port.
The 285.4-meter-long vessel was refueled by the bunkering barge Marine Ista. In addition, customs officials, port authorities, and local shipping agent Pak Traders Gwadar ensured the operation was completed safely and efficiently.
Boost for Pakistan’s Maritime Economy
Maritime experts believe the successful operation will strengthen Pakistan’s maritime industry. It is also expected to generate new foreign exchange earnings and increase port-related revenue.
Moreover, the achievement enhances international confidence in Gwadar Port’s infrastructure, operational capability, and security standards.
Commercial Bunkering Services Officially Begin
Port authorities said the operation marks the official launch of commercial bunkering services at Gwadar Port.
Furthermore, international shipping companies can now use the port for marine fuel services, improving Gwadar’s position as a regional maritime hub.
Supporting the Blue Economy
Officials expect more international vessels to refuel at Gwadar in the coming years.
As a result, the port is likely to strengthen Pakistan’s blue economy, expand the logistics and marine services sectors, and create new employment opportunities for local communities.
