Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Uruguay’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lubetkin and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday on the sidelines of UNSC meeting.
Meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister
Wang stated in a meeting with Dar that Pakistan has actively mediated the US-Iran negotiations and is a reliable and skilled mediator. In order to restore peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region as quickly as possible, China will continue to support Pakistan’s peace initiatives. It will try to advance communication, negotiation, and a complete ceasefire, he continued.
Dar, for his part, expressed gratitude to China for backing Pakistan’s attempts at mediation. He stated that a five-point plan for peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf has been proposed by China and Pakistan and has garnered widespread support. Pakistan will keep contributing positively to the situation’s de-escalation.
In addition, the minister highlighted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s successful visit to China, where the two nations came to an agreement that raised the bar for the development of a China-Pakistan community. China is prepared to collaborate with Pakistan in order to sustain high-level contacts, strengthen political confidence and increase practical cooperation, reaffirmed Wang.
Meeting with Uruguay’s Foreign Minister
Wang stated that since the two nations established diplomatic ties, China-Uruguay relations have been characterised by maturity, stability, and predictability at a separate meeting with Uruguay’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lubetkin.
According to the Chinese foreign ministry, China values Uruguay’s commitment to the one-China principle and will help the nation protect its own security. Therefore, China is prepared to enhance multilateral coordination with Uruguay in order to advance a multipolar world as well as universally advantageous and inclusive economic globalisation, pointing out that Uruguay is now the Group of 77’s rotating chair.
