For Sami Iqbal, the journey from a master’s student at Southeast University in 2015 to a tech entrepreneur in 2026 reflects a strong link between research and innovation.
Today, he serves as an assistant professor and the founder of Enfiniti Innovate. The startup works on AI healthcare, smart devices, wearable technology, and renewable energy materials. In addition, it focuses on technology transfer between China and Pakistan.
Research Driven by Energy Challenges
Dr. Sami’s research focuses on third-generation solar cells and advanced materials such as perovskites and carbon nanotubes. He has published nearly 30 papers and filed several patents.
He explains that energy poverty remains a major global challenge. Therefore, his work aims to develop affordable clean energy solutions.
Moreover, he highlights China’s dominance in solar manufacturing. He notes that over 80% of global solar cells are produced in China. Even during his research stay in Canada, most lab materials still came from China.
From Lab to Market Innovation
Dr. Sami founded Enfiniti Innovate in 2021 with a Chinese partner. The company connects researchers and entrepreneurs from Asia and Africa.
Importantly, it focuses on turning lab research into real products. In China, he observes, innovation moves quickly from universities to industry.
The company has already developed a biomedical testing device for the Lagos State Police in Nigeria. It can detect multiple drugs in urine samples.
In agriculture, the company supplies stevia-based solutions to Pakistan’s Punjab Agriculture Research Board. This supports diabetes management and healthier food alternatives.
Strengthening Pakistan–China Tech Cooperation
The startup also promotes training programs for Pakistani researchers in China. For example, technical staff are sent to Anhui province for hands-on lab experience.
Furthermore, the model is expanding into healthcare and smart farming. These initiatives aim to improve skills transfer between both countries.
Recognition and Global Engagement
Dr. Sami’s work has received multiple awards in China. His team secured prizes in innovation competitions in Nanjing.
He believes such platforms help international students showcase their talent. In addition, they strengthen collaboration between China and Belt and Road countries.
Life and Work in Nanjing
Beyond research, Dr. Sami enjoys life in Nanjing. He often explores nature, hikes Purple Mountain, and participates in community events.
He also supports entrepreneurship programs for students from Africa, South Asia, and the Gulf region. Through these efforts, he helps young innovators understand opportunities in China’s startup ecosystem.
