President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday summoned a high-level meeting to review the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East and Pakistan’s potential role as a mediator.
The meeting, chaired by the President, will include Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, key federal ministers, senior military officials, and provincial chief ministers.Participants are expected to discuss ongoing conflicts involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, as well as the regional implications of attacks on Gulf countries.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will brief attendees on outcomes from a recent four-nation foreign ministers’ conference, while the meeting will also review the country’s petroleum reserves, supply chains, and implementation of austerity measures.Decisions regarding subsidies for motorcycle and rickshaw drivers are also expected to be taken during the session.
