Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called on citizens to participate in the global Earth Hour campaign by switching off unnecessary lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 28 as a symbolic step toward climate protection.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the campaign, themed “Give an Hour for Earth,” highlights the importance of environmental conservation, efficient energy use, and climate change mitigation.He described Earth Hour as more than a symbolic gesture, urging communities to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and build a sustainable future.
Highlighting Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate risks despite contributing less than one percent to global emissions, PM Shehbaz noted threats from floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events affecting food, water, and infrastructure security.He outlined government initiatives, including the Upscaling Green Pakistan Programme, Living Indus Initiative, Recharge Pakistan, investments in renewable energy, ecosystem protection, and modern early warning systems to enhance climate resilience.
