China will soon carry out an in-orbit upgrade of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) to further enhance service quality and optimize the operational status of some satellites. The upgrade will involve strengthened monitoring, maintenance, and joint testing to ensure smooth and stable system performance.
Currently, the BDS operates 50 satellites in orbit, providing global navigation with positioning accuracy better than 10 meters and space signal accuracy better than 2 meters. The system also achieves velocity measurement accuracy of 0.2 meters per second and timing accuracy within 20 nanoseconds.
With precise point positioning service signals, BeiDou can offer horizontal positioning accuracy better than 0.3 meters and vertical accuracy better than 0.6 meters. The system supports industrial development, public services, and everyday applications, reflecting its deep integration into China’s economic and social infrastructure.
