The Ministry of Commerce has amended the Duty and Taxes Remission for Export (DLTL) scheme to address concerns of larger rice exporters and make it more competitive internationally. The Rs15 billion subsidy will support exporters starting from January 23, 2026.
The previous $1,275 per tonne price cap has been removed, enabling exporters to receive 9% of the FOB value for rice priced at $750 or above. Exporters with offices abroad in Saudi Arabia, UAE, US, EU, and UK are expected to benefit most.
While the scheme enhances Pakistan’s global rice trade competitiveness, there are concerns about potential misuse. FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh highlighted the need for fair access to ensure maximum foreign exchange earnings for genuine exporters.
