Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his condolences to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari after a deadly attack at a Shiite mosque in Islamabad killed over 30 people and injured more than 170. Xi strongly condemned the violence and terrorist acts and affirmed China’s support to Pakistan in fighting terrorism.
The Daesh group claimed responsibility for the attack, which came despite Islamabad’s heavy security and marked the second such incident in three months. Authorities have conducted operations in Peshawar and Nowshera, arresting four suspects including the alleged mastermind, while one counter-terrorism officer was killed and three others wounded.
The attack has heightened concerns about the resurgence of militancy in Pakistan’s major urban centers. Chinese officials reaffirmed their commitment to stand by Pakistan in counter-terrorism efforts and ensuring safety for innocent civilians.
