The National Highway Authority has launched the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for two sections of the M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, a key missing link in Pakistan’s north-south motorway network. The assessment aims to integrate environmental safeguards and social protections into the project’s planning phase.
Financed by the Islamic Development Bank, the consultancy will cover over 120 kilometres of motorway and include preparation of environmental management, resettlement, labour, gender inclusion and livelihood restoration plans. The assessment process will be completed within four months of contract signing.
Although not formally part of CPEC, the M-6 Motorway is expected to significantly strengthen China-Pakistan Economic Corridor connectivity by linking Karachi Port with northern Pakistan and beyond. The project is designed to improve freight movement, reduce travel time and promote greener regional integration.
