The East Africa Commercial and Logistics Center (EACLC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is revolutionizing regional trade by combining warehousing, showrooms, customs support, and logistics in one facility. Established with Chinese support, the hub aims to reduce trade bottlenecks between China, Tanzania, and neighboring East African countries.
Local traders like Ayoub Katuga, managing director of Ascon Africa, report significant growth in their wholesale businesses since opening shops at EACLC. The modern infrastructure attracts customers from Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda, providing a reliable and organized trading environment.
Technology-driven companies, such as Wawlyn Limited, also benefit from the center, using it as a platform to expand into the African market. Chinese enterprises, including furniture and building material suppliers, have set up operations, leveraging Tanzania’s strategic location, population, and political stability.
Beyond commerce, EACLC serves as a platform for broader China-Africa economic cooperation, supporting Tanzanian participation in Chinese trade expos and facilitating Chinese business presence in Tanzania’s major trade fairs. Traders already report tangible benefits, including access to new markets and strengthened regional business networks.
