China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has urged the Syrian transitional government to take strong action against terrorist groups in the country. Speaking at the UN Security Council, he highlighted that terrorism continues to be a major obstacle to Syria’s reconstruction. Fu Cong expressed concern over foreign fighters entrenched in Syria, warning that they pose a serious threat to regional and international security.
He emphasized that Syria must ensure its territory does not become a source of danger for other nations. Fu Cong called on the Syrian government to fully implement its counterterrorism responsibilities and take decisive measures against all UN-listed terrorist organizations, including the East Turkistan Islamic Movement. China is closely monitoring Syria’s progress in maintaining stability and security.
China also expressed appreciation for Syria’s recent efforts to restore peace and stability. Fu Cong highlighted the importance of political dialogue and development plans that reflect the will of the Syrian people. He stressed that China supports Syria in finding reconstruction strategies that align with national conditions while respecting the choices of the Syrian people.
Furthermore, China announced its willingness to contribute to Syria’s social and economic reconstruction. Fu Cong mentioned cooperation under initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and multilateral frameworks such as the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. China’s support aims to help improve livelihoods, strengthen reconstruction efforts, and promote long-term peace and stability in the region.
