Pakistan and China have announced a cooperation plan to transform Pakistan’s agricultural research system through innovation, joint laboratories, and specialized training programs. The initiative seeks to modernize research centers, strengthen technology adoption, and bridge Pakistan’s gap in modern farming practices.
The plan was developed by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), assessing Pakistan’s PARC, NARC, and 11 research institutes under MNFSR. Focus areas include wheat, rice, maize, cotton, horticulture, livestock, and climate-resilient technologies.
Joint laboratories for crop genotyping, phenotyping, and advanced agricultural applications will be established, supporting innovations in food processing, machinery, and farm productivity. Bilateral programs like PhD fellowships, postdoctoral research, and scientist exchanges aim to enhance Pakistan’s research expertise to global standards.
The initiative also introduces Technology Transfer Units and a National Agricultural Technology Transfer Centre to manage commercialization, licensing, and industry linkages. Regional demonstration hubs and farmer training centers will ensure research reaches the field, while a high-level committee monitors progress and accountability.
