Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding infrastructure cooperation, with discussions focusing on major transport projects including the Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) and the upgradation of the Rohri–Karachi railway section.
The meeting took place in Islamabad between Federal Minister for Investment Sheikh Qaiser Ahmed and Mr Xin Han, Director for Asia and Oceania of the China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation (CR20G). CR20G’s Chief Representative in Pakistan, Shoeb Ahmed, and Voice of America correspondent Ali Furqan also attended.
During the talks, both sides reviewed progress on previous collaborations and explored new areas for partnership under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. Shoeb Ahmed highlighted CR20G’s successful completion of the Lahore–Multan Motorway (M-3) between 2016 and 2018, a project completed within record time and acclaimed for its engineering quality.
Minister Sheikh Qaiser Ahmed welcomed the delegation and commended China’s long-standing role in Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development. He said the government has simplified investment procedures to create a more business-friendly environment and is keen to attract Chinese firms to participate in new ventures.
“China has played a vital role in Pakistan’s economic growth and infrastructure development,” the Minister said. “We are confident that CPEC Phase-II will bring tangible benefits to our people through modern connectivity and regional integration.”
Both sides expressed optimism about deepening cooperation in transport and logistics infrastructure, reinforcing Pakistan’s strategic role in regional trade and connectivity.
