Pakistan and Malaysia are deepening cooperation in digital transformation and IT innovation as part of the ongoing Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference, held from October 5-7. The dialogue coincided with the TechConnect 2025 event, attended by ministers, tech leaders, and industry experts from both nations.
On October 6, Malaysia’s Minister for Digital, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, met Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Mr Jam Kamal Khan, to discuss strategies for enhancing digital trade, cross-border services, cybersecurity, and joint ventures in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G infrastructure.
The ministers highlighted strong complementarities between the two countries, including large youth populations and vibrant startup ecosystems focused on fintech, agritech, healthtech, and e-commerce. They emphasised the role of digital infrastructure and talent development in supporting future innovation.
During the conference, the ministers inaugurated TechConnect 2025, which featured leading organisations like MDEC, Cyberview, PIKOM, Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association, AWS, and Oracle. Delegates engaged in presentations, networking, and discussions to explore innovative solutions and identify collaboration opportunities in the digital and IT sectors.
The meeting also underscored the recently signed MoU between the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) and the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), aimed at strengthening IT-sector linkages.
Minister Gobind Singh Deo noted that Malaysia views Pakistan as a valuable partner for technology exchange, while also serving as a gateway to the ASEAN region, a market of nearly 700 million people, with 460 million digital consumers and a projected $2 trillion digital economy by 2030.
Both ministers expressed confidence that this collaboration would enhance bilateral economic ties and provide platforms for youth-led entrepreneurship and innovation in the digital economy.
