Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Governance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The award recognises his exceptional leadership and decades-long service to public administration and nation-building.
Ceremony Held at Kuala Lumpur Campus
The special convocation ceremony took place at IIUM’s Kuala Lumpur campus. It was officiated by Queen of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, the university’s Constitutional Head.
Senior officials from both countries attended, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
PM Shehbaz’s Address: Leadership as a Sacred Trust
In his speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz called the award a “great privilege and honour.” He reflected on his four decades of service, from Punjab Chief Minister to Prime Minister of Pakistan.
He described leadership as a “sacred trust (amanah)” that demands honesty, justice, and accountability. He praised IIUM for blending knowledge, faith, and ethics, and hoped to strengthen academic collaboration between Pakistani universities and IIUM.
Call for Muslim Unity and Ethical Leadership
PM Shehbaz urged Muslim countries to unite amid global challenges. He emphasised the need for moral integrity and compassion in governance to uplift societies and restore the Ummah’s rightful place in the world.
Queen of Pahang Praises Shehbaz’s Visionary Leadership
Queen Tunku Azizah lauded Shehbaz’s discipline, compassion, and visionary leadership. She cited the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, which opened higher education opportunities to thousands.
She said his leadership “touches hearts and transforms futures,” adding that he embodies sincerity and service over image.
Strengthening Pakistan–Malaysia Ties
During his three-day visit to Malaysia, PM Shehbaz and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim signed six key agreements covering trade, investment, and defence cooperation.
Malaysia agreed to import $200 million worth of halal meat from Pakistan and expand palm oil exports. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to Muslim unity and economic collaboration.
Boosting Economic and Investment Cooperation
PM Shehbaz also met with Gobi Partners, a leading Malaysian investment group. The firm showed keen interest in Pakistan’s e-commerce and fintech sectors.
He assured investors that Pakistan offers a business-friendly ecosystem under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), supporting startups and international investors.
Shared Vision for Global Peace
Both leaders discussed joint efforts in healthcare, agriculture, and energy cooperation. They also reaffirmed support for Palestine, calling for decisive global action to end the genocide in Gaza.
