Xi Jinping Urges Unity for a Beautiful Xinjiang
Chinese President Xi Jinping urges unity, modernisation for Xinjiang development, calling for collective efforts to build a “beautiful Xinjiang” as part of China’s modernisation drive. During his visit to Urumqi for the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Xi met representatives from ethnic groups, officials, religious leaders, security personnel, and military officers. Its GDP increased from 1.23 billion yuan in 1955 to more than 2 trillion yuan in 2024, growing faster than the national average. Cotton production, driven by AI-based mechanisation, has secured Xinjiang’s position as China’s top producer for over three decades. This success highlights the region’s industrial strength and contribution to national growth.
Tourism Boom Adds Cultural Vibrancy
Tourism is now a key driver of Xinjiang’s development. In the first quarter of 2025, the region received 44.63 million visitors, marking a significant year-on-year rise. Festivals, expos, and cultural events are helping Xinjiang showcase both its heritage and modern lifestyle, making the region attractive for global tourists.

Xi has repeatedly stated that ethnic unity is the foundation of peace and prosperity.
