Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, held a meeting with the Governor of Hunan Province, Mao Weiming, to discuss strengthening Pakistan–China cooperation under the second phase of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The minister highlighted the participation of over twenty countries at the BeiDou Summit, praising Hunan’s central role in China’s economy. He underscored that the BeiDou satellite system offers vital information infrastructure for modern industry and recalled that Pakistan was the first foreign country to adopt BeiDou, reflecting deep mutual trust.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasised that CPEC, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, had already helped Pakistan resolve energy and infrastructure gaps. He noted that while the first phase focused on energy and transport networks, CPEC Phase II prioritises industry, modern agriculture, minerals, science, technology, and cultural exchanges. He further stressed that Hunan can become a driving partner in expanding cooperation in agriculture, technology, railways, and minerals.
Governor Mao Weiming welcomed Pakistan’s proactive role and Minister Iqbal’s participation in the BeiDou Summit, calling it a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations. He also approved establishing a permanent working group with Hunan Province to drive CPEC Phase II initiatives forward.
